JANUARY OVER

A POEM BY BEN PARKER - 31/1/17 - 1/2/17

1 month down

with 11 to go

what if hell is above

and heavens below

what if my hometown

never again sees the snow

what if my grandkids

never ever see the snow

i hope i raise the funds

so they can get

where they need to go

for their minds to grow

so when we stand toe to toe

i see a universe

in the light of their eyes

a warm smile

to showcase our family ties

ill never do what those others did

that cowered, lied, ran and hid

im a family man

im my mothers son

shes the only one ive needed

since my life begun

so don’t step to me

with step relations

they’ll buy you gifts

but forget your birthday

late in may

happy belations

thankfully thats not my story

but it is for others

who’ve succumb to divisions

their worlds turned upside down

due to unearthly decisions

they never had a word in

from blind judgement most likely

caused by 1 of 7 deadly sins

love and respect your next of kin

that brought you to this earth

use their love and all their lessons

and learn to grow on your own turf

treat your girl right

before during and after

she gives birth

don’t be scared by waves

get on the board

and learn to surf

keep your balance

like your self-worth

consistently on the rise

be careful

don’t look down

keep your chin up to the skies

and on dark days don’t you frown too much

because that shit will give you wrinkles.
